Description

A delicious and hearty chili made with ground beef, beans, and spices.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 ribs celery, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (10 oz) diced tomatoes with green chiles
  • 1 can (15 oz) red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 oz) pinto beans, drained and rinsed
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 cup water or beef broth

Instructions

  1. In a large Dutch oven or heavy pot, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
  2. Add chopped onion, celery, and green bell pepper. Cook for 5 minutes until softened. Add garlic and cook 1 more minute.
  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and diced tomatoes with green chiles.
  4. Add chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, pepper, and sugar. Mix well.
  5. Stir in kidney beans, pinto beans, and water or broth.
  6. Bring to a low boil, then reduce heat and simmer covered for at least 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Serve warm with your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • Can be served with cornbread or over rice for a complete meal.
  • Adjust spices to taste for a milder or spicier chili.
